Position Description:

Developing and/or implementingmethods, procedures, systems, devices, regulations and standards directedtoward the conservation of human and physical assets at company’s XYZoperation. Managing the environmental, safety, health, industrial hygiene andfire prevention activities at this location. Assisting in the development andadministration of education and compliance programs concerning federal, stateand local regulations regarding all EPA and OSHA standards or the EuropeanUnion (EU) or other appropriate national standards general safety programs andfire prevention. Position must championand implement Flowserve’s industry leading standard of safety, workplacehealth, environmental stewardship and fire prevention/preparedness

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

a. Assignment, review and Approval of Work

Specificprojects and goals are generally assigned by Supervisor, although some projectsmay be suggested by Corporate Director of Safety, Health and EnvironmentalAffairs and/or Regional SHEA Manager. Others are self-generated, based on theneed to respond to day to day changes in plant operations and to comply withnew and existing federal, state and local regulations. The General Manager orOperations Manager ultimately reviews and approves all work. All activities are subject to audit by theCorporate Regional SHEA Manager.

b. Responsibility and Decision-MakingAuthority

Canauthorize expenditures approved in the budget in conjunction with Companyguidelines. Make independent decisions associated with areas of responsibilityor as results from tasks assigned. Often required to make decisionsspontaneously under emergency conditions.

c. Relationships With OutsideOrganization

Outsidecontacts include safety supply vendors, local fire department, insuranceindustry consultants, representatives of various regulatory agencies,industrial hygiene consultants, equipment manufacturers representatives,members of the area Chamber of Commerce or similar organizations, andcounterparts at other industries.

d. Specialized or Technical Knowledge

Thisposition requires knowledge of the engineering and science disciplines. Alsorequires a knowledge of the social sciences, i.e., behavior, motivations, andcommunications. A fundamental knowledge of statistics, mathematics, physics,and chemistry is required. The ability to apply the principals of measurementand analysis is necessary in order to evaluate safety performance. Excellentverbal and written communication skills are required, as well as the ability tointerpret standards and regulations to determine the extent to which they applyto XYZ’s operations. A knowledge of the fire protection and prevention sciencesis also required. These skills are typically acquired through the completion ofa bachelors degree program in engineering or the sciences and/or throughrelated work experience and continuing training/development. A minimum of fiveto eight years (5-8) experience either directly or indirectly with safety,health and environmental activities in a manufacturing environment.

e. Organizational Relationship

Thereis close coordination with Human Resources, Corporate Director of Safety,Health and Environmental Affairs, Regional SHEA Manager and other SHEAprofessionals within the Corporation.

f. Major or Unusual Challenges

Themajor challenge associated with this position is the reinforcement of correctsafety behavior of employees in order to meet SHEA objectives, i.e., attemptingto deal with the constant “dilemma” of “safety vs production”. In addition, theage of equipment and buildings, congestion, and the resultant problemsassociated with loss prevention must be addressed.

g. “Makes or Breaks”

Mustbe a self-starter and must aggressively and diplomatically pursue and gain thecooperation of all echelons of management to support environmental, safety andhealth. Most importantly, the attention of the front line supervisors isrequired. Success hinges on the ability to convince employees that Companyefforts in these areas are sincere and inspire employee participation.

Program

Insure that the XYZ operations are in compliance with applicable federal, state

and local regulations. Foster a spirit of working within the intent of these

regulations as well as the “letter” of the regulations. Conduct audits and

training programs as needed. Establish a working relationship with appropriate

regulatory agency personnel. Generate all needed reports and permit

applications (i.e. air, water, waste), ensure compliance with applicable permit

requirements, review proposed changes in manufacturing equipment and/or methods

to assess environmental impact. Work to

reduce waste generation and support any remediation activities under the

direction

of the Corporate SHEA director and Regional SHEA manager.

Industrial Hygiene, Fire Prevention and Safety Programs

"Times New Roman"\">Have managerial oversight of the above programs. Insure that

programs are in place to assist in meeting objectives of the Company safety and

environmental philosophy. Ensure

training programs and in place to ensure compliance with legal standards and

implement accident and near miss reporting programs to proactively manage

safety performance.

Employee Workplace Health Activities

"Times New Roman"\">Oversee educational activities, testing programs as needed

and day to day activities. Serve as the Company contact with the consulting

Company Physician in forming local policy and implementing same. Review and

recommend changes in methods and approach to positively policy affect XYZ

operations.

Preferences:

Minimum of 10 years of experience directly with safety, health and

environmental activities in a manufacturing environment.
